Register For The Romance Writing Virtual Conference!
Writer’s Digest University is pleased to present a one-of-a-kind online event for romance writers! On February 18-19, 2023, our WDU Romance Writing Virtual Conference will provide expert insights from SIX award-winning and bestselling authors on the finer points of how to write within the romance genre. Spend the day learning techniques for honing your craft from six different published authors, then (if you choose) pitch your novel via query letter to a literary agent specifically looking for material in the romance genre. The agent will provide you with a personalized critique of your query—and maybe ask to see more.

Six WDU Courses Begin This Week!
Creative Writing 101
Creative Writing 101 combines teaching the key elements of storytelling with developing the protagonist. Once you understand who this character is and how to make sure you’ve included the key story elements, you are well on your way to writing that book you have been squelching.
Freelance Writing
In this course, you will work with a published article writer to develop, research and write two articles suitable for publication in magazines you've identified as appropriate markets. You will get feedback from your instructor on your first and second draft of both your articles.
Query Letter in 14 Days
Take your writing one step further and tackle the publishing process. When you enroll in this online course, you'll learn the details of the query letter format and how to write a query letter that catches the attention of agents and publishers.
Read Like a Writer: Learn from the Masters
This course will demonstrate that the best way to become a good writer is to study the writing of others, especially the work of the masters. Because there are no hard-and-fast rules to writing, it’s important to study what other writers have done and how they consciously make narrative decisions and meticulously select details based on audience and purpose.
Short Story Fundamentals
Whether you are a writing novice looking to cut your teeth or a published professional, the short story is a unique and challenging medium that offers you amazing opportunities. Also, short stories are a great way to gain publishing credentials with less time investment than it takes to develop a novel-length work. The course covers structure and the common pitfalls writers experience when crafting a short story.
Writing the Picture Book
Picture books are one of the most delightful—and important—genres in all of literature. In this course, you'll learn how to write a winning picture book narrative, envision it with illustrations, and put together a picture package that a publisher will really notice.
