2023 February Flash Fiction Challenge: Day 6
Write a piece of flash fiction each day of February with the February Flash Fiction Challenge, led by Managing Editor Moriah Richard. Each day, receive a prompt, example story, and write your own. Today’s prompt is to write about a parent’s wisdom.
For today’s prompt, write about a parent's wisdom. It could be a physical key, a metaphorical one, or even something completely abstract—it's totally up to you!
Remember: These prompts are just starting points; you have the freedom to go wherever your flash of inspiration takes you.
(Note: If you happen to run into any issues posting, please just send me an e-mail at mrichard@aimmedia.com with the subject line: Flash Fiction Challenge Commenting Issue. Fingers crossed there are no tech hiccups!)
Here’s my attempt at a story about a parent's wisdom:
Nuggets
Her mother had these sayings. Either you’re the kind of person who checks the eggs before buying them or you aren’t, for example. Or, You never want to be the horse spurred by the horse fly. She’d never asked what these things meant or where her mother had heard them. She always felt like if you knew, then you knew. If you didn’t, well, eventually you’d learn.
After her mother was gone—cancer, too young—she had her favorite one tattooed on the tender skin of her inner arm: You’re always sure about the jump until you’re in the air.
