Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 621
Every Wednesday, Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and an example poem to get things started on the Poetic Asides blog. This week, write an animal poem.
For this week's prompt, write an animal poem. There are many ways to attack this prompt. First, you could make the title of your poem a specific animal and write a poem. Second, you could write a persona poem from the perspective of an animal. Third, you could write about an animal in the third person. Fourth, your poem could just mention an animal in passing. And fifth, well, I'm not sure, but I'm confident our poetic group can conjure up many more interpretations.
Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at an Animal Poem:
“for onj,” by Robert Lee Brewer
i was raised with you
bringing out the animal
in me whether it was
at rydell high or xanadu
maybe because you
were devoted to me
hopelessly in every
pop song you released
with a little more love
making a move on me
until i found myself
under a heart attack
i've got to handle you
the way you handled
me like magic cast
so hopelessly
