Plot Twist Story Prompts: Unexpected Kiss
Every good story needs a nice (or not so nice) turn or two to keep it interesting. This week, have an unexpected kiss.
Plot twist story prompts aren't meant for the beginning or the end of stories. Rather, they're for forcing big and small turns in the anticipated trajectory of a story. This is to make it more interesting for the readers and writers alike.
Each week, I'll provide a new prompt to help twist your story. Find last week's prompt, Deeper Magic, here.
Plot Twist Story Prompts: Unexpected Kiss
For today's prompt, have an unexpected kiss between two characters. Note: This is not an expected (long anticipated) kiss between two characters that's been building up for a while. This is a seemingly out of left field kiss (that may or may not make sense afterward).
Of course, once the kiss happens, there's probably a seismic shift in at least one character's view of the relationship. Maybe they start thinking of the other character in a romantic way, but maybe they also go the other direction. Or maybe they're just very confused about the what and the why of what happened.
Also, the unexpected kiss doesn't have to be a kiss. It could be a hug or a pat on the arm or an unexpected word of encouragement. The point is not the actual action as much as the unexpected display of affection...and then, the fallout from that unexpected moment.
So have an unexpected kiss, and see what happens next.

Have you hit a wall on your work-in-progress? Maybe you know where you want your characters to end up, but don’t know how to get them there. Or, the story feels a little stale but you still believe in it. Adding a plot twist might be just the solution.
