Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 678

Every Wednesday, Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and an example poem to get things started for poets. This week, write a winter poem.

For this week's prompt, write a winter poem. It's that time of year again. The days are short; the wind is cold; and many stores are packed and playing a specific type of music. So it's a great time to write about winter, including the frigid months yet to come.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Here’s my attempt at a Winter Poem:

“cold front,” by Robert Lee Brewer

he stands outside the store
& realizes he didn't pay
attention to where he parked
on the way in & so many cars
have the same shape & paint job
& empty shopping carts
are pushed through the lot
by the anxious wind
