The Writer’s Digest Retreat: Scituate Harbor takes place in this lovely New England seaside village, home to numerous beaches, restaurants and shops—and it’s all without the congestion and noise of larger tourist destinations. Enjoy a relaxing environment in which to write for long periods of time without interruption or distraction. You’ll also participate in numerous lectures and critique groups and enjoy the camaraderie of your writing peers.
Here, your work will be read, discussed, revised and reexamined with the goal of ensuring that it’s as finely tuned a piece of fiction as possible. Whether your goal is to secure the attention of an agent or editor, or simply entice a reader looking for a great book, the retreat will ensure your initial pages and plot are as compelling and lovingly crafted as possible. You’ll also learn how to pitch your work and have an opportunity to practice with the group!

Your home during the Retreat will be The Inn at Scituate Harbor. Experience the quintessential New England seaside experience at this comfortable and quaint hotel, nestled in Scituate Harbor, midway between Boston and Plymouth. Take a seaside stroll along Scituate’s five beaches or take a walk into the village. It’s an idyllic setting for you to relax and reflect on your work.
Meet Paula Munier
Paula Munier, Senior Literary Agent and Content Strategist at Talcott Notch Literary Services, boasts broad experience creating and marketing exceptional content in all formats across all markets for such media giants as WGBH, Disney, Fidelity, Gannett, Greenspun Media Group, F&W Media, and Quayside. She began her career as a journalist, and along the way added editor, acquisitions specialist, digital content manager, and publishing executive to her repertoire. Her specialties include crime fiction, women’s fiction, upmarket fiction, crossover YA, high-concept SFF, and nonfiction.
Paula is very involved with the mystery community, having served four terms as President of the New England chapter of Mystery Writers of America as well as on the MWA board. Paula has also served on the New England Crime Bake committee for ten years and counting. And she’s an active member of Sisters in Crime, ITW, AWP, and SCBWI.
A popular speaker and writing teacher, Paula has authored/co-authored more than a dozen books, including the bestselling Plot Perfect, The Writer’s Guide to Beginnings, Writing with Quiet Hands, and the acclaimed memoir Fixing Freddie: A True Story about a Boy, a Mom, and a Very, Very Bad Beagle. Her first mystery, A Borrowing of Bones, will debut in September 2018 from Minotaur, an imprint of St. Martin’s Press.
Meet Hank Phillippi Ryan
Hank Phillippi Ryan is the on-air investigative reporter for Boston’s WHDH-TV, is the winner of 34 EMMYs, 14 Murrows, and dozens more honors for her ground-breaking journalism. Ryan’s also an award-winner in her second profession as a bestselling author of nine mystery novels—with five Agathas, two Anthonys, two Macavitys, the Daphne, and for The Other Woman, the coveted Mary Higgins Clark Award. Space is limited to 20 writers. Your retreat registration of $1,999.00 includes:
- All lectures and special events developed for the retreat

- Lodging for three nights at The Inn at Scituate Harbor (Thursday – Sunday)
Your travel expenses to and from the event site are not included. Dinners are on your own (or with your fellow writers) in the village of Scituate.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
If you must cancel for any reason, please notify us via email at email@example.com by March 31, 2018. Your registration fee will be refunded less a $100 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be made after this date for any reason.
