Throughout this Monday Market Spotlight series, I’ve been trying to identify opportunities that are great for poets. This week’s spotlight fits that description as a well-respected and poetry-only publication: FIELD: Contemporary Poetry and Poetics!
FIELD: Contemporary Poetry and Poetics is only published twice per year, but they make up for quantity with quality. Plus, there’s plenty of opportunity, because this journal only publishes poetry!
As with some of the other spotlight markets, FIELD has published several poems that have been anthologized. So it’s well-respected, and that means it’s super competitive. But as with most journals, it just takes the right poem to get an editor’s attention.
Submissions are currently open (August through April), and the editors attempt to respond in 6 weeks. With such a quick response time, they do request that poets refrain from simultaneous submissions.

The 2016 Poet’s Market, edited by Robert Lee Brewer, includes hundreds of poetry markets, including listings for poetry publications, publishers, contests, and more! With names, contact information, and submission tips, poets can find the right markets for their poetry and achieve more publication success than ever before.
In addition to the listings, there are articles on the craft, business, and promotion of poetry–so that poets can learn the ins and outs of writing poetry and seeking publication. Plus, it includes a one-year subscription to the poetry-related information on WritersMarket.com. All in all, it’s the best resource for poets looking to secure publication.
