  • No agent, no matter how skilled or experienced or well connected, can sell a lousy manuscript (unless, of course the writer is already famous).
  • Much of the editing and hand-holding done by editors at large publishing houses is now done by agents and book doctors.
  • Don’t begrudge an agent her fee.  Really, would you want to do what an agent does for a living?
