Identifying Prospective Publishers

Writer’s Little Instruction Book: Getting Published by Paul Raymond Martin

If you do not yet have a literary agent, or if you choose not to use one, you can submit your manuscript to most publishing houses other than the huge conglomerates.

When your manuscript is ready to go to market, or even somewhat earlier, browse bookstores or surf the Internet to identify publishers who release  similar kinds of books.  Write for each publisher’s submission guidelines and current catalog, or study the publishers’ listing in the annual directories like Writer’s Market to determine if your work fits a specific house.
