Apply this checklist to your own work and see how it causes you to change direction or, most important, improve.
Ask yourself, “Is the”:
material appropriate in intensity and scope?
writing appealing to the five senses?
point of view clear and consistent?
tension established in the first paragraph? Is there a point of crisis, revelation or recognition?
language of the story appropriate? Abstract or vague? Verbs passive? Modifiers excessive?
