In the midst of change, there are rocky moments, as all of us in the writing industry know well. With the rise of ebooks, the increase in publishing options, the DRM debate and the DOJ lawsuit, we’ve seen a fair share of bumps. Everyone is struggling to understand, adapt and forecast what is to come.

In the middle of all of this swirl is the writer—the imagination-wielder, the storyteller. Whatever tension exists within today’s publishing landscape, the dedication and perseverance of writers is, and always will be, one of the very best things about this industry.
The writing community is made up of thousands of individuals who support one another. There is a collective understanding between writers that we are strongest together, and to that end, people readily give their time and energy to see their fellows succeed. My blog partner Becca Puglisi and I are honored to share the writing path with so many great people, and so decided to stage a Random Acts of Kindness for Writers initiative at our blog, The Bookshelf Muse.
With the help of over 100 bloggers on Monday, the writing community was blitzed with various acts of kindness. But writers celebrating writers is only one half of the whole, so for the remainder of the week, industry leaders have taken it over. Each day at The Bookshelf Muse, our writing and publishing partners are showing their appreciation by giving away some amazing RAOK gifts for writers! In fact today you can swing by and enter to win the Writer’s Digest lecture by Irene Goodman, How An Agent Picks A Client: From Query To Career.
It’s been great to see the spirit of kindness and appreciation flood the community this week! What a wonderful reminder of the generosity of others, and what can be accomplished when we work together.
