    Hi all,

I am an amateur journalist, writing mostly lifestyle and motorcycle reviews for a South African publication.

My partner has finished writing his sci-fi / fantasy book, and has asked me to help him review some concepts before he submits it to an agent. In turn, I would like to use the Writer’s Digest platform to learn more about writing and editing.

My first question to the community is about companions / guides. At which point should a sci-fi writer consider writing the story, and then releasing a companion separately? I feel that by constantly explaining more of the technologically advanced concepts it disrupts the flow of the story.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to improve this, or suggest an alternative?

    Thanks! 🙂
