My name is Colleen, and I am a budding writer. I enjoy tv shows and movie with creatures and magic, and I write, color, and draw on my spare time. I came to this forum because I have written stories I need help critiquing. I have sent it to agents, but no success. I thought someone here could help with improving my story and recommending the right agent for me.

    Welcome to the forums.

No one can recommend an agent to you, but with the right resources you should be able to find plenty of agents to query. But it has to be done right. If your query is not properly formatted or you don’t follow the rules agents put on their website, you will only see rejections.

This is the best website for agent hunting. Also google on how to write a query letter. There are a lot of examples out there. Good luck. 😀

    Hey, Colleen. Welcome!

I’ve got to disagree with Terry. We CAN recommend. You still have to make the call but we can present our experience for your assessment.

That said, Querytracker is that idea on the large scale. There is a lot of feedback there from writers about what the agents rejected, accepted, and so forth.

I would also recommend Query Shark. http://queryshark.blogspot.com/

It’s written by a successful agent, although I’m having an embarrassing case of amnesia on her name. Look through the queries she addresses, and her responses. See if you agree or not. But understand that she’s just one agent. Still, I think I’ve only disagreed with her once, and that wasn’t a strong disagreement. I think she makes a great deal of sense.

When you say stories, are you referring to short stories? Poetry? Novels? That can have a great deal of impact on how to proceed.

The agent is Janet Reid. She’s a great person and agent and loves to help people.
