I haven’t tried any of the software (other than Word) but I did recently read a scathing review of a book in either the NYT book review or my local rag – the Baltimore Sun – (don’t remember the book) where the reviewer dismissively noted the book was so formulaic it read as if “written with plot software.” For me, this put another spin on writing software (at least the plot software).
I also work in clay. In the clay world, there are a large number of what we call production potters. These are people who create – often beautiful pieces – en masse. These pieces often are potters’ ‘bread and butter’. My sense of much of writing software is it enables writers to become ‘production writers.’ Which is not a bad thing, just a different thing… Linda
