I can always tell when someone likes one of my stories. If they don’t, I get the bland “It’s good”. I’d rather they simply say they didn’t like it. My wife has done that to me a few times. My last piece Phantom In The Womb caused her to look up at me, startled, with a “Wow, this is really good!”.
I’ve just started writing again after over 15 years. Because of this, I’m still making some rookie mechanic mistakes, but I’m most interested in whether or not my story moved the reader. Nearly anyone can master language mechanics – proof of this is all around us – but few can tell a good story.
