OK, so this isn’t an answer, but sort of a related question: Recently, a number of folks have described my book as a “quick read,” usually in the context of saying that they really enjoyed it.
Maybe it’s just a male author thing (“quick” and all, don’t you know;-), but from an author’s perspective, “quick read” seems like an awkward compliment at best, despite the good intentions on the part of the reader/reviewer. It seems to me like saying, “The good news is, his work was not nearly as demanding on my intellect or time consuming as I thought it would be. Well done!”
How would you feel about being a “quick read?” Would you still respect the author in the morning?
