Jamesaritchie – 2008-05-28 6:25 AM If the reader stops and says, “I wish I’d written that”, he isn’t a reader, he’s a wannabe writer.

Eyah. That might’ve been a poor choice of words; not a good mistake to make in a room full of writers…

Still, I think one can be a reader, have no intention of ever writing anything, and yet be so in awe of the way something is written that one says, by way of admiration, “I wish I’d written that”…not as intent to actually take up the craft, but in meaning, “Wow. That was really great! I wish I could do something like that!”

I am in no way a painter and have no interest in taking it up, and yet, I can walk in to an art museum and see things that would make me say, “Wow. Wish I’d thought of that”. ‘Druther boil my own toes in cooking oil than do stand-up comedy, but after a really good show, I have been overheard to say, “Wish I could do that”…

I guess, that means I say things I don’t mean…but my friends all understood the comment in context…and a couple even agreed with me….
