As far as I know, the yellow rose was extremely rare in the west up until the time of the renaissance or a little later. Before that, it was known only in the east and was brought to Europe during the Crusades but still continued to be rare and valued as a precious strain of the rose family.
I’ve heard that Neopolian’s Josephine was an ardent collector of different roses and held the yellow rose to be very precious.
They’re a symbol of love, trust and friendship.
These days you can find them everywhere. My mum grows them in our garden.
