Oh yeah. I’m a bit of a hypochondriac and can never research much medical data without beginning to feel sympathetic aches and pains. Unless, of course, I’m merely channeling my characters.
I suspect there is also the real danger of a writer’s ego getting in the way of their research, particularly in the fields of terrorism and crime. Can one really avoid thinking thoughts such as:
“Hey, I could do a better job of blowing up …”
“I know exactly where they went wrong in the Brinks job. Why if I were going to do it, I’d …” :emoticon:
