Forget any notion of making that first paragraph a prologue. That won’t work at all. Just pick a tense and stay with it from first sentence to last. I detest present tense. I think it’s awkward, and I KNOW the story is not happening as I read it. But this is personal taste, so write the one you like most, and the one you write best.

Bestsellers can be written with either tense, but I think a book sells despite being present tense, rather than because of it.
