Not sure I understand this, Terry. Of course you can have first person past tense. 😕

That’s why I’ll never write in 1st person. 😀

1st person, present tense: I’m going to the store.

1st person, past tense: I went to the store.

How’s that?

Past tense is “I went to the store.”

Present tense is “I go to the store.”

“I’m going to the store” means you haven’t done it yet. It may be present progressive, meaning you’re on the way, but you haven’t actually arrived at the story.
