The US Army does use the word “base.” As in “fire base Alpha,” which would be a place where guns have been installed to support infantry operations. There is an “Oakland Army Base” near my home. The Army has a “U.S. Army Base Realignment and Closure Division.” When in the Army I spent time at “Fort” Lewis, Fort Monmouth, Fort Hood (formerly “Camp” Hood in my father’s day), the Oakland Army Base, and Camp Bear Cat (in Vietnam), which was referred to as the “base camp for the 9th Infantry Division.” The press very often refers to this or that “Army base.” So it is acceptable and accurate to refer to Army real estate as a “base.”
