I think just the opposite is true. Poetry is what happens when a writer of prose experiences a moment of pure fearlessness, when the integrity of the message and the art of delivering it trump all other factors, when words become true avatars of emotion and familiar conceits of grammar, conventional structure and mundane vocabulary are too rudementary to express the complexity of a pure, fearless thought.

Prose is a pillow-fight of communication, padded with empty words to meet the expectations of a broad audience. Poetry is a knife fight with many shapened blades slicing deeply in ways that will be long remembered, word for word, cut for cut.
