I want to say Catherine de Siena, but I should probably say George Eliot. (wrong century)? Try Andre Norton, Madeline L’engle (too young)? Ursala LeGuin (Earhtsea, but my genre is showing) Like a good mystery? You can’t beat Agatha Christie, though I always liked Dorothy Sayers. These women certainly impressed me, but I realize they may not suit your fancy. I guess what I want to say is don’t give up. They are out there.
And for the record, I feel I had better say this before someone else does: some of us men writers are pretty narrow minded as well.;)
I second LeGuin whole-heartedly. And it was my husband who first told me to read a book by her, now I look for her books in stores and libraries.
