I’ve thought of using this device, and have to a limited degree. Having one character being the context of the other character’s lives. Imagine the life of a US President told from the perspective of his wife, secretary, cabinet members, journalists, etc. I think it can be a good approach.
I agree that would be intriguing — if the only character who you never POV from is the MC. I don’t think I have the skill to do that on a first draft. I’m pretty sure I’d have to write it including the normal dose of MC POV and then move POV on my second runthrough. Interesting concept.
