maia-yes. you’re not bound. and I know it’s done. but I also know of writers who have had to do this. and were not happy about it. (*understatement alert) esp after working so hard to find an agent, having to begin that querying/search/vetting process over again. one even ended up firing her agent and then going with a new and more diverse agent. so, no. a priority for me was to find an agent that was comfortable with my eclecticism and if they couldn’t place it, they were situated within an agency where there were others who could. thankfully, as james said, this seems to be the case with most good agents.
