Thank you, Peggy, for your willingness to reveal the “true story” about having a book published. Few authors are candid about those royalty and sales figures. While I don’t want to tromp on people’s dreams, I do think an understanding of the realities (as opposed to the ‘white veil vision’) is more kind in the long run.
I know others disagree with me, and that is their prerogative.
Let me repeat that I also feel that writing as a hobby or emotional outlet or with limited expectations of financial success is a perfectly valid use of one’s time, energy and funds.
Your comment about using your royalty check to pay down a credit card bill for book-related expenses is especially useful for everyone to know. It isn’t profit until it’s free and clear! Your satisfaction at being a published author is, of course, priceless.
