I paid for an editor to critique my picture book manuscript.

When I got it back it had only one or two red pen marks on

it. I have to say, I was disappointed at first because she

advised me to refocus my story in another direction. I loved

my story and didn’t want to do that. So, I had a conflict.

After I rewrote my story I saw what she meant. My focus was

on a child getting gifts for christmas. The focus became

more about the child’s character and actions when she is faced

with the choice of helping a wounded dog or getting christmas


The editor’s advice did change my story, but I would never do
