I think there’s a big difference between being honest and taking risks in our writing and gushing about all the gory, private details of our life.
A local woman gushed on about private matters and absolutely inane thoughts (I wore my new blue skirt today from Foley’s, etc.) When she later ran for public office, the media had a field day with her blog. One talk show host used fodder from her blog for three full hours of merciless bashing. The woman was severely trounced in the primary.
We need to be circumspect about what we’re willing to put out on the world wide web, because once it’s out, it is impossible to eradicate.
I am very honest in my writing and on my blog, but I am also very careful about what subjects I’m willing to address. To me, that’s just being prudent – not being a fearful writer.
