if it takes you as long a time to edit and polish the book as it usually does for new writers, some of those agents you find who are currently open to new writers may no longer be… and/or some may not even be still in business… or have changed their preferences and no longer accept queries for the genre you have to offer…

That’s true, Maia. But my first step in figuring out the whole thing was to research who had sold novels in my genre and that is really a long time-consuming task. Once I had that list then I looked for ones who were accepting unsolicited queries. It is just hard to believe how hard it is to figure out who is selling what in the industry.
