okay. someone sticky jr’s post, because I think her advice is dead-on and universal. yes. check out the list-there’s some great agents on there. but you will do yourself an enormous favor by hands-on researching who has sold something like your book and to whom. PM is your friend. So is the bookstore. So is Amazon. So is the Internet. but also, for later in the process, go to websites like PW, Galley Cat, Paper Cuts, and Guide to Literary Agents sniffing for news. Who’s shifting to what agency, who’s new, who’s looking for what…and talk to other writers.
I’ll say it again, (and I probably weep about it in my sleep too. *sigh* 🙂 ) this was the part that was so time-consuming, the research. But it was worth every second, your targeting is much more efficient.
