Today is one of the days that I definitely am earning my pay as a writer. I’m doing a major feature for a magazine on family owned businesses. I thought it would be a piece a cake – after all, what business doesn’t want feel-good press?
Instead, I’ve had to fax letters of intent to several businesses detailing the purpose of the article and why they should be included. I’ve had to make nine phone calls trying to get a decision so I can start lining up interviews. And I’ve had to provide proof of my ability to put sentences together is a decent fashion so often that I have the shpiel memorized by now. “Just Google my name. It’ll turn up…”
When did it get so hard to get someone to be willing to be interviewed for a feel good story?
I’m looking forward to the weekend and spending some time with my fictional characters. With my luck, they’ll give me a hard time as well.
