I read this book over Thanksgiving vacation. As I moved from one named chapter to the next, I realized it was constructed like a screenplay…scenes, sets, change of venue, flashbacks in time, etc. Often the characters acted in contradiction to previous motivation and the reader was left unclear about the choices they made. I have ready nothing else by this popular author and I doubt I will. I found the novel dramatic and engaging (on a soap opera level), but lacking the elegance which would classify it as lasting literature. With all the positive publicity this writer has garnered, I have to admit I was surprised at the product, if indeed, this is a fair example of her talent.
