I’ve submitted (granted, mostly contests, but still..) some of my first few short stories to some of the pubs I know of — Zoetrope All-Story, Greensboro Review, Indiana Review, Black Warrior Review, Glimmer Train, WD. I haven’t tried Ellery Queen or Hitchcock yet, but is there even such a thing as a pub that specifically looks for up-and-comers? I know my stack of rejections is nothing compared to the many professional writers on here who had to schlog through it before me, but I’m just curious so that I don’t (continue to) get disheartened here. Right now I’m just looking to build a bit of a resume, and I guess I’m wondering if there are pubs with slightly more sympathetic ears but still have some rep besides an ezine. Am I just hitting the introductory bad spell, or am I aiming too high right out of the gate?
