Popular fiction awards: What about story rights?

Postby dbdub » Tue Oct 17, 2017 12:47 am

Hey guys-

I looked in the FAQ about what rights WD will claim on the winning entries. Its it first world rights or something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

http://www.writersdigest.com/writing-competitions-preparing-your-entry#general

Writer’s Digest retains one-time nonexclusive publication rights to the [varies with contest] winning entries in each category to be published in a Writer’s Digest publication. Authors retain all ownership of their work.

WD rules for the contest should spell out what rights they take.
Some contests take all rights for ever. I dont think WD does that but read the rules to be sure.
