Forum Problems Bypass: How to login & how to post

Postby Dreaming Imrryr » Tue Jun 20, 2017 11:15 pm

I have condensed the following from the "Forum Down" discussion:

This forum is falling apart.

There's definitely a problem. If I go directly to the forum, I'm not logged in (even though I logged in earlier with the "remember me" button), and when I try to log in, I get the error message that it's timed out. If I go to the home page first, then click on "community", then click on "forums", voila! I'm logged in. But I have to be careful to right click on the back button and go to "read unread posts", because otherwise it times out again.

This isn't the first time (and undoubtedly won't be the last time) that WD has had problems keeping the forum up and running, technically. WD apparently doesn't give a crap about actually engaging with the writers who support them, but rather is only interested in pushing their products. I give kudos to pls and all the other folks who have to deal with this continually and do their best to keep things moving regardless.

it is bizarro
the easiest is to go to home page
and log in there
then open an extra page from the drop down at community/forum
then hit new posts
repeat from the drop down at community when returning fails

also click bbc code if it gives error saying no words in your post
and retry

Now we're having posting problems too.

Don't use "Quick Reply"; on other posts/replies, click on the "Disable BBCode" (below message box) and it should post. Still can't get urls, colors, italics, etc to work, but at least you can post that way. If you notice some of your other posts have disappeared, going into edit and clicking that box will bring them back as well.

the disable bbc stops color italics etc
that is what bbc makes possible so disabling it kills those things

Not sure where to put this, but if you want to include a link in your posts, DON'T use the URL button - just paste the link. Not sure why, but that seems to work. :?

I have resorted to staying logged in here.

The only way I can stay logged in here is to login to my wordpress account. Otherwise, as soon as I close the window, I get logged out. As long as I stay logged in to wordpress, I'm good to go (something must be hinky there because several other sites wouldn't let me stay logged in until I did that either, and it was never a problem before).

I just checked the box to keep me logged in.

If it works for you, use it. However, be sure that you review my suggestions in the FAQ forum, too, as most of the current problems seem to be as a result of WD's technical staff refusing to upgrade phpBB as per periodic notification to do so.

Keep in mind, too, that the site is not consistent in loading software, probably because of its "step-child" position of being integrated into the Word Press platform (that's why we had so many mass spam problems, especially with a Korean spammer, until Terry Rodgers came up with a clever solution that forced every first-time user to post in the Introductions forum, allowing them one post per day. You may have to log out and back in again to be able to post on a given day. In fact, I have not been able to access certain posts to review them. Luckily so far I've been able to deal with spammers and those who break forum rules and deal with them.

Good luck! And thanks to you who are giving new users all the good advice.

Noted.
You ask me what I thought about
Before we were lovers.
The answer is easy.
Before I met you
I didn't have anything to think about.
