format a short conversation.

Postby heyharris1 » Wed Feb 01, 2017 3:39 pm

I have a problem trying to figure out how to format a short conversation. Two people are talking but there is a third who is blind folded. The blind folded guy is not supposed to hear it but he does. How exactly do I write it so the reader understands that he heard it. here is what I got so far. Markel is the man who is blind folded and he don't know exactly who is talking, he just hears the voice. Is what I have there correct.

“As for the sickly one?” Markel heard the elf say in a low throaty voice.
“Take her straight to the iron bark caverns.” Markel heard a different elf respond which came rather quick as if it was not up for debate.

Thank you

I would turn the last two sentences around, sort of like, Then Markel heard a different elf's voice say, "Take her straight to the iron bark caverns."
