I'm unshakable in my Cristian faith, too, and for pretty much exactly the reasons Fictional Cowboy gives.

Some people believe that what happens in the "now" doesn't have anything to do with your future plans. So what I'm saying is, When you could've had great things happening in your life "now" but it just hasn't happened for you, do you believe that there's something from your past that tied into your future that caused it to not work out. Do you believe that the beginning ties in with the end?

'Some people believe that what happens in the "now" doesn't have anything to do with your future plans'

Things we do “now' create memories for our future. We have a free will to choose to accept or deny these 'happenings' of 'now' and make them a part of our future or not.

“When you could've had great things happening in your life 'now'”

You say “when you could have had” There is something here that just doesn't make sense. What I'm saying is: how do you know you could have had great things happening in your life 'now'? We are not seers of the future. We can plan and work towards a goal, but unexpected things can 'happen' in anyones best laid plans.

do you believe that there's something from your past that tied into your future that caused it to not work out.

There are so many variables in ones life that could could lead one down many different paths. It all comes down, again, to the choices we make. What may have seemed like a great choice in your teens may not seem the correct choice for you now. Your experience in life has taught you many lessons that what you deemed correct in your teens does not fit in your current life. There is always something from one's past that may have an effect on your “now”. It is called law of “cause and effect”. In other words, whatever you do in life now will always have an effect on your future.
Long, long afterward in an oak I found the arrow still unbroke
And the song from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend

As a Christian, as well, I also believe that God has a plan for everyone.

However, He also gave us choice, meaning He gave us the choice to falter from His plan... as many and all of us usually do at certain points in our life. Yet, if we listen, we can take another exit and get back on His plan, or a new one He devised.

He is present in the timeline, from the beginning, to the middle, to the end. He is also outside the timeline; outside of time. Thus, He knows all, so He has a plan, but He also has a plan for when we mess up His plan... it's all very interesting.

It is destiny, but it isn't destiny.

---

However, to the question, "Did you do something from the past that ties in (influences) the now, or even your future?"

Yes, of course. Chaos Theory suggests that everything seems like chaos--as if it's random--but in fact, nothing is random. If we, as humans, could see every variable at work, we could predict everything. Also, the theory suggests that just a tiny, little, insignificant variable can drastically change the course of someone's life. Now imagine all the variables in affect with one another.

So yes. I believe you wouldn't be standing exactly where you are right now, if it weren't for a choice you made on your 7th day of life, and your 100th day of life, and your 1000th day of life. It all ties into each other.

There is no such thing as fate, destiny or karma, except in retrospect or in absurdly obvious cause and effect situations (If you jump off a 7 story building, you are "fated" to end up a bloody mess on the street below).

Not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes dumb luck (bad or good) prevails. The reason most things happen is that someone made them happen, often out of stupidity or selfishness.

No one is fated to have a good or bad life, though the odds are stacked for or against some folks.

God's "plan" for you is pretty general (don't do some things, and do others), and you've probably already screwed it up millions of times by the time you're old enough to post on this board. Keep trying.

Almost nothing happens on earth by God's direct action. It wasn't God's will that traffic accidents took the lives of the 80-100 people that died today (on average) in the USA. poop unicorns and rainbows happens. Faith can help when one of those fatalities was someone you cared about. But don't you dare tell the 7-year orphan that her mother's death was God's plan for her. If I hear that kind of crap, I might punch you in the throat. And I think God's in my corner on that issue.
