BigWorldNetwork.com: Television in Book Form - SUBMISSIONS

Postby akanichiyoubi » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:13 am

I am the Managing Editor for BigWorldNetwork.com, a web and mobile presence that offers literature in an exciting new format, and we are seeking writers! BigWorldNetwork.com is like television in book form, featuring weekly fiction and non-fiction series as episodes, engaging readers and keeping them coming back for more.

Things are really taking off for the site as we near our official launch later this Fall, but we need more submissions and help to get this site off the ground!

Initial contract is for one season, comprising 12 episodes published at one a week (there are two seasons per year for series that are renewed). Each series episode should be between 3 and 7 pages in length, but there is some flexibility depending on the series. Please prepare a synopsis for the entire season, and a complete episode one. No restrictions on genre or rating, as we have a rating system and want everything we can get. In some cases if it is unclear where your series is ‘going’, we may request a second episode for review.

Submissions can be emailed to submissions@bigworldnetwork.com as an attachment in PDF, Word or Pages format, but MUST include in your email an active link to the industry standard submission agreement. Example: I agree to the Big World Network Release Agreement Version 1.* at this location http://bigworldnetwork.com/agreementv1.pdf.

We are still working out how to make revenue for the writers, but it costs you nothing but your valuable writing time to submit and participate, and there is the potential for revenue in the future. You will also retain full rights to your work.

If you would like to help out with the site in ways other than writing, or along with writing, check out the contact us page and let us know! And please, spread the word, and tell us what you think of the idea in general, the site, the whole package, as we are looking to improve and make BWN something truly special!

as a writing mentor, i would caution anyone to not give away your work to any site that offers just a 'maybe you'll get paid for it sometime in the future'...
ALL 6 e-book collections of my work are FREE...email me with "want free books" in subject line and include a message.

Thank you for your comment! We can completely understand your position. We hope as we grow and compensation is more possible to calculate and share with potential writers, you will see the benefits of our idea. We understand that not everyone writes for the sheer enjoyment of it, but for those who do, and who would like the chance for potential revenue, we are excited to provide an alternative. In the mean time we hope you enjoy our site after our launch and our eBooks on Kindle.

I'll bet everyone except writers are already being paid. You find a way to pay for your computer(s), for your software, etc. You manage to pay you internet provider, the electric company, etc. Why? Because if you tell them We hope as we grow and compensation is more possible to calculate and share with the internet provider and the power company. And just try telling the supermarket than you want to eat the food now, and maybe you'll find a way to pay for it later.

Unfortunately, too many writers allow themselves to be treated as not worth any money now, but, hey, maybe later.

If you can buy a computer, if you can pay your electric bill and your internet provider, and probably half a dozen other things, you can find a way to pay writers now, just like you do everyone else.

Actually, none of those things are true. We are all giving our time pro bono without being paid just like all of the contributing writers. My computer is my personal laptop that I personally pay for, since I have another full-time job like everyone else who is starting out with this idea and offering their help to see it get off the ground. No one is getting paid because no money is being made yet. (Launch is set for November 9th!) As soon as we find the best ways to offer compensation, however, the writer's are always priority.

I do appreciate you sticking your neck out to warn writers against organizations that might be trying to take advantage of them, as those do exist in large numbers. First and foremost, never trust any place that asks YOU for money. We are simply asking for your time and effort if you want to be a part of something really exciting. Thank you for your concerns.

BigWorldNetwork.com Launched Successfully!

Postby akanichiyoubi » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:05 am

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken an interest in this idea. The site officially launched yesterday with 15 series from new and already published authors alike. The site has had some major overhauls since first created, so we invite you to check it out, and even consider submitting for future seasons.

I am not deleting this post because technically it is not spam, and without the original WD guidelines to guide me, I must fall upon my common sense to make a decision as to how this post should be handled. Luckily for me, two people who are replete with common sense have already posted.

I am in the majority of those who believe that writers should be paid for their work. Please read maia's and James' posts before making any commitment without expected compensation. Promises do not pay the rent. Locked.
