Looking for Current Info About Self-Publishing Markets

Do any of you have any recent experience with such sites as Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Draft2Digital, et al.? The threads I'm seeing here are all old.

I've looked at these websites and they "seem" legit, but I would love to hear from people who have actually published with them.

I'd also like to know about their formatting process, please. Some require Word. I have a Chromebook, which doesn't have Word. Is there any way around this?
