I've been trying to sell short stories to speculative fiction magazines for three years and have yet to succeed.

A few months ago, I decided to write a straight-forward "literary" story. I wrote the whole thing in one sitting and submitted it...it became my first sale!

Congratulations! Yes, the industry is clearly very subjective in terms of what's acceptable and what's not. But if you've found an editor who likes your work, run with that.

Awesome to hear of more successes.
