My first entry be kind

-- my belt

kneeling before my Lord, I am silent, a treasured offering lies between us

my hands smooth my gi, head bowed prayers are offered to my Lord

eyes open and see sacrifice, honor, responsibility, my belt

through years the colors have changed but the belt remained

reaching out I lift the fold and the belt falls open

I will honor My Lord, my Creator, my Savior; it is his will that gives me life

touching the belt to my lips it is blessed

I will honor my family that I hold dear. It is their unending love that sustains me

the belt is drawn about my waist

I will honor my instructors who have given me this knowledge, the knowledge to protect and defend.

a hard fast pull cinches the knot

I will earn the honor of my students this day, and every day forward

Underwear, brand spankin’ clean,
freshly pulled from my drying machine.
Warm against my cool derriere,
la ropa de primera I wear.

Mama warned, never dress without,
lest my thingy from my dress fall out.
“But Mama,” queried I at ten,
“tell me please, what happened to men?”

Mama paused, and studied her knitting,
careful not to answer unfitting.
“It’s simple,” said she and gave me a grin,
“underwear lets no thingies in.”

Comfort, could you ask for more
Digging through the drawer
Searching for the perfect piece of comfort
Ah, there it is my favorite gray sweat pants

Just seeing them is comforting
As I push everything else to the side I pull them out
Aggressively yanking them out from the clutter of other items
I hold them up in front of me

Yes, how delightful it already feels
Quickly, one leg at a time I pull them on
How sweet they feel
Now off to find my flannel shirt.

My submission has 2 versions.

Title: My Coat of Jesus
Version one

Today I'm going to put on my "Coat of Jesus".

It will keep me warm,

with the kind of warmth that only He can provide.

It will protect me from the harsh elements of daily life.

It will shelter me from the pains that hurt, frustration and un-forgiveness produce.

I can bear all things,

with my "Coat of Jesus" on.

It is my armor to face the day.

I can be the person He created me to be.

I can possess the qualities which are He...

(kindness, gentleness, patience and humility).

Without my "Coat of Jesus" on,

I am only me.

And alone I am nothing.

But in Christ,

I am complete.

Title: My Coat of Jesus
Version two

My Coat of Jesus insulates me.

It keeps me warm in the cold,

and keeps me cool when the heat is on.

When I feel my temperature beginning to rise,

and it seems any minute I will blow,

just like a calming breeze,

it causes my anger to slow.

When cutting winds blow through me,

and my boat is tossed to and fro,

just like a flickering fire light,

I am warmed from head to toe.

My Coat of Jesus is truly the only garment I need.

It is having God's loving arms,

forever embracing me.

Stepmother opens the door
she's still crying
"Take something that will remind you of him."
and I see Dad's jacket

It still smells like the beach
the energy of the sun
has infused it with its' perfume
the wind and the sand have softened the fabric

I think of Dad when I wear it
it can warm me right down to my heart
and when I put it on I can see the beach
where Dad is walking
his golden hair in the sun
picking up shells to share

That old red sweat jacket
was all I wanted that day
but I am ashamed I could see it's magic
and didn't want to share it

my secret is out
the jacket is magic
