Alphabet Angst

A poem by S. L. Harris

Alliteration angst be damned, verse free I plead, I beg, I pray, pray, pray
But, but, but balked my pen
Callow chicks, ha-ha-ha, he-he-he, here I hoe:
Dreary dogs
Feral fowl
Goofy geese
Horny hogs
Itchy irises
Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat
Kooky knaves
Lovely lasses
Morbid mates
Northbound nights
Occupy my thoughts, jam my juice, starry eyed I muse the Fates
Plop poor, poor
Quaint queries into
Ready routes before you;
Salient submissions
Trod tricky paths,
Uttered urges bid them onward, onward to loving hands
Vestal virgins, no, too trite, vital virtues, ah, better editor
Wicked ways these angst ridden roads that lead to
Xenon Xanadus, false fiefdoms or better yet, elusive
Yarrow Yippie-kai-ohs, self published quicksand, no give me
Zesty Zion, that’s the writer’s grail, I beg, I plead, I pray, pray, pray.

ABC's of Life!

A poem by KathyBert

Another day begins
before I have the
chance to
drive away the worries and
escape yesterday.
Forever locked in, I
gasp for breaths which
hinder my ability to relax, and
I try to imagine
just one day without
kinfolk in my
Mustering the courage I
need to continue
on, I
parade around, acting like a
queen who
relinquishes her duties in order to
sit at her
table in peace and quiet
undaunted by the tasks at hand,
very content in the moment,
wandering her thoughts to
x-out anything negative, she
yawns as she relaxes,
zealot that she is!

All about me is all I care for
Breaking rules
Confronting the weak
Dinging others
Erasing the view
Following no one
Getting everything
Helping a few
Idealizing what?
Just a bit more
Knowing nobody
Leeching off mom
Mixing with the wrong crowd
Never quite apologizing
Opening my big mouth
Putting others at risk
Quitting before its done
Ruling everyone out
Standing my ground
Taking it all for granted
Using, using, using
Voracious venting
Watching my mother cry
Xraying my soul
Yearning for release
Zooming to hell

As long as I don't have to have a theme
Before I write to you
Cause that would make me create a scene
Doing this is entirely new.

Everyone said that it couldn'y be done
For it never had before
Getting along without any fun
Had whiskers on it for sure.

I said that I could do it fine
Just give me lots of paper
Keep yours away, make it all mine
Laughter keep for later

Maybe now would be a good time
Now I'll turn on the computer
Open up Windows, follow the signs
Push the cursor past the tutor.

Questions arise, but are pushed aside
Right alongside other projects
Standing alone, no-one standing beside
Totally obsessed by this subject

Until it's completed I'll continue on
Vary the words that are spoken
Writing this way for daughters and sons
X-rays must wait to be taken

You may wonder why I'll do this now for
Zero reward? So do I.

Armed with passion and fire
beneath a mask filled with
courage and pain,
daunting my destiny with
everlasting doubts,
forging ahead to the future
grabbing onto life, fighthing to survive,
hoping to soon discover purpose to
illuminate this dark and scary
journey using smiles and gentle
kindness, searching to find
love and a desire touch
meant to heal the soul from the
numbness of confused and
overflowing emotions, that search for
power to overcome this tragic
quest, where chaos have taken
residency and where only
sunshine can rally the life that remains
trapped inside my deepest and
untamed spirit, waiting to be rescued with
vines that climb and travel through my soul
without time to take an
x-ray of my heart,
yell out my name or locate the
zone of our lost and forgotten memories

Into The Middle Ages
A poem about medieval times in the modern times
by: Reb Kreyling

All around the people gather
Bearing items from a far away time
Courage and fortitude will carry the day
Dreams will come true as they come to play
Everyone's happy to be out in the sun
Fans of a time that was long, long ago
Green grass is scuffed as they prepare for the day
Happy voices raise in song, while happy feet dance along
Including anyone who ventures near
Jesters joke and dance and sing, while
Kings look on with serious smiles
Ladies sit and sew all day, watching the events with critical eyes
Majesties walk with regal grace
Nodding their heads at their liege men
Owls grace livery, while the
Prince and Princess look on with glee and the
Queen bestows favors on her knights
Royal favors are much desired
SCA members have their own personas; king, queen, princess, prince, lady, lord or maybe something else
Times have changed but many people wish they could have lived long ago
Until they research the history and find out what it was really like
Valiant fencers battle for victory
Will's Revenge XIV is an example of an event that members can participate in
Xanadu is how the members perceive the events
You can join if you want, just go to
Zithers play as day fades into night.

Writer within

A thoughtful night
Before I began to write
Could I do it?
Dog my way through it?
Each and every word with meaning
Far deeper every reading?
Give it my all, I say, but no one
Hears and
I put it away
Just for a little while.
Keep a routine, I tell myself.
Life is a story - get it off the shelf.
Many writers have done this before.
No excuse is the
Only way to score.
Pick up my pen,
Quit playing on the computer.
Right now, I'll do it, the
Story will come sooner.
Touching others with words
Using just a keyboard is
Very demanding,
Writing my heart out, reaching for
Yearning for
Zen and understanding.

Your poem really spoke to me and the internal struggles we all have in order to do what we really want to do inspite of the self-talk that always presents itself louder. I will post your poem in my journal so that I am reminded that I am not alone in this quest to write - even just for myself. Thank you! :)
