Quite frankly, I can't stand present tense. I picked up The Hunger Games, opened the book, then immediately let it hit the table. Perhaps I'm just a bit picky on this, but I was honestly too distracted by the tense, coupled with first person point-of-view (yeesh, not a good combination, in my opinion) to get anywhere in the story. Not to mention how frustrating it seems that every inexperienced writer and their equally inexperienced uncle saw the success of the series and said, "Hey, I can do that, too! If that's what I need to do to sell a million copies, it'll be a piece of cake!"

Trending. It's what flooded the market with poorly written teen vampire romance novels after the Twilight series. It's what's driving me insane about many first-time writers.

present tense fiction makes no sense to me whatsoever... never has, never will...
