I would say that the question is a little bit vague...

Do looks matter, for what? For a writer? No, not terribly. We've already gone through a list of writers that are either boring, ugly, plain, or any other such "negative" image for appearance. What matters is how well we can throw down on the page. If we can do that it doesn't matter of the Elephant Man makes us look bad. Writing is one of the professions where its all about the "put up or shut up" attitude. In terms of my peers, I don't care what you look like, what I care about is how well you can flex the lexicon and make IT look good.
