Record number of people on line?

Postby Oldtimer » Mon Aug 07, 2017 4:32 pm

According to the bottom line, there are 366 guests on line at the moment. Really? Wow. Where are they? C'mon, guests. Let's be hearing from you. Everyone's welcome. :D
Read samples of my Martian series (by Dorothy Piper) and two romances (by Joni Havel) on Smashwords.
Hard copies of all are on Amazon.

Some are awaiting to be approved. They may not come back at all.
Others are checking out how much activity there is.
We need a critical mass of active users if the forum is to be successful and not fade away.

What this community needs is an interested group of passionate people who talk about writing and reading and story telling and life and don't get caught up in what's not happening or in days gone by.

People visit forums because they get something from them or they feel that what they give is valued. Unless the forum gets back in the game it will remain as it is.

It's up to the members.

I'm willing to bet that a good portion of those "guests" were spammers trying to get in, and failing.

@nhope (and, hopefully, @Writers Digest, if they're willing to listen):
==It's up to the members.==

Not this time.

Create a response here. Hit "Submit." Wait.

You're going to get a browser error.

The error is not caused by old software, or a bastardized integration of one software platform with another.

It's caused by InfoTech neglect.

See, if you look, and not even all that carefully, you're going to see a Web address in your browser that begins:

http://www.writersdigest.com:81/...

See that 81? That's referring to something called a port. Very roughly analogous to a channel on your TV.

What that 81 does is tell your browser to change the channel. Only there's no channel 81. The Web site and forums are on channel 80.

That's happening because a setting that SHOULD take you back to the thread you responded to is broken. Not some big function like antispam or security. It is, in essence, a blank. Insert the correct information. Maybe restart Web services.

But the administrators, the IT staff in charge, won't even look.

This is not up to users. This is not about participation or nostalgia.

This is about functionality, and WD has shown no indication that they care to even try.

Hence, my signature.

I would expect that is people on all parts of the WD site not just the forum.
