Blissfully Ignorant
By Penney White

God has guarded me from the indignities and casualties
Leading me through gay frivolities
Decorating Christmas trees and honored nativities
So my children will come home to holiday gayeties

I thank you God for these simple moments of blissful ignorance
The gift of three children home without incident
But how can I be so happy when I know how selfish I feel
That my three weren’t treated with such indignity
As twenty poor innocent souls
Killed in such bitter cold

Please forgive me God I pray
So I can give the time today
To pray for those twenty souls
No longer that their mothers may hold

I am sorry for those mothers toll
Loosing the ones they gave blood to hold
That one day their hearts will mend
Knowing they will join one day in Heaven.
