I'd like to know what everyone's favorite poem is. Be it Robert Frost or Emily Dickinson, whomever they may be by.

For me, there are two that I love beyond anything. The Lady of Shallot, by Lord Alfred Tennyson and The Ballod of Tam Lin, which is an old Scots/Irish folksong, I think. The origins can be hard to determine, but I think it's Scottish. Anyway, I'd like to know your favorites.

My favorite is easy. It's The Raven, by Poe. My close second would be The Road Less Traveled, by Robert Frost.

Don't make me Google (sounds kinda personal doesn't it). My favorite is by Yeats I believe--the one that starts with 'when you are old and gray and full of sleep' or something like that. Everyone should have a love like that. I'm a sucker for Shakespeare's sonnets too.

I don't know for sure if it's Yeats (I think it is). Anyway, I know what poem you are talking about. That's a good one.

I'm a very big Poe fan, but the two I listed trump him, sorry to say. If you can get a fully translated version of Tam Lin, it's beautiful and sad and frightening all at once. I'm actually getting part of it tattooed on my shoulder--"Had I known but yesterday, what I know today"-- It's lovely enough standing on it's own. The full quote would take up too much room, but that portion of that line is just the sentiment most people have. "If only I'd known..." Everyone feels that way at some point and time in their life. Yeats... I haven't read in a long time. I like Frost too, what is the name of that one... "I had for my winter evening walk, no one at all with whom to talk" and then it goes on about cottages in rows and shining eyes or something like that. Excellent poetry.
