Show -VS- Don't Tell in a Personal Essay

Postby KnightWriter » Sun Jun 01, 2014 11:13 am

A proven strategy to not only convey your point so much better, but showing versus telling has been an award-winning game plan in just about any area of writing. I just found that out from reading all kinds of stories, which (to my amazement) includes personal essays.

Given this newfound information, what would be the best way to highlight the details of someone passing, their funeral, and the events following the funeral? Then again, that seems like an awfully big timeline to compress into a limited amount of words. It wouldn't make much sense playing hopscotch from past to present without successfully arcing each paragraph to the next and beyond. What do you guys think?
