John Grisham, who is a literary giant, starts some of his novels in that manner. One that I can remember quite clearly is his novel titled, "The Testament" The beginning of his novel sets the base for the rest of the novel. I don't think there is a set rule of how a story begins as long as the beginning ties in with the plot and how the story unfolds or ends. I have heard this method of story beginning being called a -disconnected beginning -.

This all is just my amateurish opinion however.

I'll admit that I am young and will ask some dumb question; however, I want to learn how to write.
